The Nubia X has an OLED screen on the back that completely disappears

Let’s face it, traditional smartphones are boring now. We’re used to annual, mediocre updates to them at this point, so when we learn about devices like foldable phones or handsets with pop-up cameras, it certainly piques are interest.

Enter: Nubia X. China’s Nubia held a launch event for its new flagship, the Nubia X. The unique thing about this phone is that it has no notch, because it’s lacking a front-facing camera. You see, Nubia put a second display on the back, which acts as a viewfinder when taking selfies with the rear-facing dual cameras. This is a 5.1-inch 1520 x 720 OLED that completely disappears when switched off.

So, if the second screen is off and you look at the rear of the Nubia X, it’ll look like a regular glass back. Other features include a 6.26-inch LCD on the front, two fingerprint sensors on the left and right edges, a Snapdragon 845 chip, 6GB or 8GB of RAM, and a 3,800mAh battery. The phone runs Android 8.1 Oreo, but it’s for the China, so there’s no Google apps, and it runs the Nubia UI 6.0 overlay.

The company has not announced whether it’ll sell this phone elsewhere. It starts at 3299 CNY ($473/£367).
